Jason Tindall on how victory might lift stricken Howe’s spirits as Newcastle beat Man United 4-1 yesterday.
Jason Tindall said he was able to offer no update on Howe’s condition but added that he had received a congratulatory post‑match text from the manager.
After missing three days of training due to illness, Howe was rushed to the hospital on Friday night and has been undergoing testing ever since. Tindall claimed that although he had been texting his long-time pal, he had not spoken to him in a few days.
“Eddie and I have been working together for 17 years and I don’t think he’s ever missed more than a day or two in that time,” he said.
“I had a text message from Eddie before the game that he put his trust in myself to do what I thought was right. I sent him a couple of messages today to say that he was hugely missed. He’s one of the best managers there is.
“It’s at times like this when the manager’s not there that the players have to step up and they did. Our mentality was fantastic.”
Bruno Guimarães, the captain of Newcastle, dedicated the victory to his boss after scoring the fourth goal in a victory that puts the team in fourth place in the Premier League and on track to qualify for the Champions League. The Brazil midfielder declared, “We won it for Eddie Howe.”
After finishing in 14th place, Manchester United must regroup before their crucial Europa League quarterfinal second leg against Lyon on Thursday night. After the first leg in France, the tie is tied at 2-2, and Ruben Amorim stated that his Manchester United team needs to get better if they want to win.
