Jitesh narrowly avoids non-striker run out scare as he was caught straying out of his crease before Rathi completed his stride.
Jitesh survives run-out appeal at non-striker’s end after Rathi went ahead with the appeal.
The incident happened during the 17th over of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) vs. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) IPL 2025 chase of 228. Jitesh was out of his crease when Rathi broke the bails at the non-striker’s end. Rathi was asked if he wanted to proceed with the appeal by the on-field umpire. When Rathi said that he did, the TV umpire declared Jitesh not out, stating that the bowler had finished his delivery stride before removing the bails.
According to the IPL’s playing conditions 38.3.1, “If the non-striker is out of his/her ground at any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be Run out by the bowler attempting to run him/her out. In these circumstances, the non- striker will be out Run out if he/she is out of his/her ground when his/her wicket is broken by the bowler throwing the ball at the wicket or by the bowler’s hand holding the ball, whether or not the ball is subsequently delivered.”
Pant also gave Jitesh a hug after indicating that he had withdrawn the plea at the time the “not out” showed on the large screen. Jitesh was entitled to withdraw the appeal, and Pant stated that he would have done so even if the TV umpire had disqualified him.
At the moment of the incident, Jitesh was on 57 off 25. RCB hammered 228 with six wickets and eight balls remaining, and he finished undefeated at 85 off 33 balls. It was the third-highest chase in IPL history overall and the most successful chase for RCB.
