Jordan Cox earns Ireland call-up after impressive Hundred form for Oval Invincibles, en route to their third title.
Jordan Cox received a late call-up to England’s T20I squad to play Ireland later this month as a reward for his Player-of-the-Tournament performance in the Men’s Hundred.
With 367 runs at 61.16 and a strike-rate of 173.93, Cox, 24, led the Hundred averages. Oval Invincibles won the championship for the third straight season on Sunday after defeating Trent Rockets by a resounding 26 runs at Lord’s.
After a string of unsuccessful close calls in recent months, including a fractured thumb on the eve of his scheduled Test debut in New Zealand, Cox himself declared he would continue to “bang the England door down” after scoring 40 off 28 balls in the final.
He has participated in three ODIs on the ensuing tour of the West Indies in October and November of 2024, as well as two T20Is against Australia in September of same year, scoring 17 and 0.
He was called up to play in three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in Dublin on September 17, 19, and 21 as a member of the England second-string team, captained by Jacob Bethell. With the possibility that a bowling all-rounder like Liam Dawson, Rehan Ahmed, or Jamie Overton would be carded to come in at No. 6, the initial 14-man team had been noticeably lacking in specialised batting.
The announcement was made just 24 hours after England’s 50-over team lost to South Africa by seven wickets in the first One-Day International after being bowled out for 131 in 24.3 overs at Headingley.
