Rashid Khan replaces Jordan Thompson in MI Emirates squad.
MI Emirates have brought in Afghanistan’s star legspinner Rashid Khan as a replacement for England allrounder Jordan Thompson for the remainder of the ILT20 2025–26 season, after Thompson was sidelined with an injury.
At 27, Rashid is already deeply familiar with the Mumbai Indians network. He currently captains MI Cape Town in the SA20 and guided them to their first championship earlier this year with a final victory over Sunrisers Eastern Cape. He has also represented MI New York in Major League Cricket across the 2023 and 2024 seasons, though he chose not to feature this year. His previous stint with MI Emirates came in 2023, when he played two matches and claimed four wickets.
However, Rashid’s availability will be limited. The tournament runs until January 4, 2026, but he is expected to depart around December 20 to link up with MI Cape Town ahead of the SA20 2025–26, which begins with their clash against Durban’s Super Giants on December 26.
Defending ILT20 champions MI Emirates open their new campaign against Gulf Giants in Dubai on December 4. Under the leadership of Kieron Pollard this season, the side has maintained a perfect record of qualifying for the playoffs across all three previous editions.
The current season began on December 2, with Desert Vipers beating last year’s champions Dubai Capitals.
