JP Duminy steps down as batting coach of the South Africa white-ball side after almost 18 months at the helm.
JP Duminy has stepped down from his role as South Africa’s white-ball batting coach for personal reasons.
When Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced new coaches following the Mark Boucher period in March 2023, Duminy was added to Rob Walter’s support staff.
It is unclear if Duminy would stay a coach in the near future. He was the head coach of the domestic team Boland and the SA20 team Paarl Royals.
For personal reasons, he had to leave the team prior to this year’s T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean in June, even though he was part of the white-ball team during their run to the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final last year. Though it might not be in time for the Pakistan series, which begins next week, the CSA will immediately start the process of seeking a replacement.
Before moving on to three ODIs, which will be part of the Champions Trophy preparation, the match begins with three T20Is, which will be played without the white-ball players who are involved in the Test series against Sri Lanka.
Imraan Khan, the former Dolphins coach who was hired in August and accompanied the Test team to Bangladesh, might be CSA’s batting lead if a full-time candidate cannot be identified. Ashwell Prince, the red-ball batting coach, was unavailable at the time but has since resumed his Test duties.
In September this year, Duminy was named head coach of International League T20 (ILT20) side Sharjah Warriorz.
