Keira Walsh to join Chelsea from Barca in deadline day move with the latter accepting the offer from the London club.
Keira Walsh set for €550,000 Chelsea move after Barcelona accept offer.
Chelsea’s proposal for Keira Walsh has been accepted by Barcelona, and the England midfielder is scheduled to have a medical on Thursday in London. The move would be the fourth most costly in women’s football history, with the transfer price estimated to be over €550,000 (£460,000).
During the last 24 hours of the window, which ends at 11 p.m. on Thursday, the two clubs came to an arrangement overnight, and Barcelona allowed Walsh to go to London.
If Chelsea and her former team were to face one other in the Champions League this season, the 27-year-old might theoretically be poised for a reunion as she would be able to be registered for Chelsea’s squad for the knockout stages. In the last two seasons, Walsh has assisted Barcelona in winning the Champions League twice in a row.
In the summer, the midfielder’s contract is set to expire. Walsh was apparently the target of a bid from Arsenal last summer after the team had been strongly connected to her for several months.
Walsh’s transfer to Chelsea came days after the team broke the global record by paying $1.1 million (£890,000) to buy US defender Naomi Girma from San Diego Wave.
Due to Walsh’s most recent transfer fee, two of the top five most costly moves in women’s football would involve the former Manchester City midfielder, who paid almost £400,000 to move to Barcelona in 2022.
Meanwhile, another Lioness may be in the process of moving ahead of Thursday’s deadline of 11 p.m. After weeks of rumours regarding her future, Chloe Kelly finally speaks out, stating that she has come to terms with the fact that she has no future at Manchester City after her contract expires in June.
