Kent slump bottom of County 2nd division after getting 8-point deduction as four transgressions trigger repeated dissent.
Following their five-wicket loss to Glamorgan in Cardiff last week, Kent was given an eight-point penalty, which dealt a blow to their ambitions of avoiding the County Championship wooden spoon.
Daniel Bell-Drummond, the captain of Kent, was given the penalty after his team was assessed caught-behind for 22 in the second innings. After Bell-Drummond objected to the ruling, the incident was reported to Alec Swann, the match referee, and was found to be a violation of Level 1(c) of the Professional Conduct Regulations.
cFollowing similar displays of disobedience by Matt Parkinson, Kashif Ali, and Tawanda Muyeye in back-to-back Championship games in May, Kent’s fixed penalty was their fourth of the season.
Any team that receives four or more of these fines in a single season will have committed a separate infraction and will be submitted to the Cricket Regulator, according to Regulation 4.28 of the Professional Conduct Regulations.
Kent were already rock-bottom in the Second Division of the County Championship, having won just twice in ten games in the course of their campaign. As a consequence of the penalty, they are now 26 points adrift of seventh-place Northamptonshire. The club has confirmed it will not be appealing against the decision.
