Lance Morris hopes to put injury woes behind him as he is set to return in the domestic 50-over competition.
26-year-old Lance Morris has admitted to feeling frustrated as he continues his rehab from another back injury.
However, he hopes this cautious approach will benefit him long-term as he sets his sights on a Sheffield Shield return.
The ODI series vs West Indies in February was the last competitive action for Lance Morris. His season ended in the third ODI at Canberra when he suffered a side strain.
He was expected to turn up for Seattle Orcas in the MLC, but a spot in his back ruled him out of the tournament. He was subsequently ruled of Australia’s series vs Scotland and England as well.
Speaking about the injury, Morris iterated that the injury was a recurrence of the injury that ruled him out of the Ashes last year.
“I guess you call it a stress fracture but it doesn’t have the natural characteristics of a usual stress fracture.
“The tricky one for me was I didn’t actually have any back pain when I was bowling.
“I get monthly check-ins with an MRI on my back to make sure things are heading in the right direction. And it’s been clearing up… healing, so that’s a positive.”
Morris aims to use the 50-over domestic tournament as a precursor to make his red-ball return in the Shield. He will hope to be part of the Western Australia side as they open their season against Queensland on October 8.
“There will be a little bit of a process in building up and getting ready for Shield cricket.
“But I think all going well, I should be available for round one or round two. “
Lance Morris hopes that a good Shield outing sees him in the mix vs India.
“I have no expectations at all. But if the opportunity does arise, hopefully I can jump on it with both hands.”
