Lauren Filer to make return for England vs West Indies warm-up in an otherwise youthful ECB Development XI.
Lauren Filer set for return to action in West Indies warm-up fixture.
A knee injury has kept England’s quickest bowler out of action since the Ashes sweep, but Filer will add expertise to an otherwise experimental ECB Development XI captained by Katie Jones of Somerset.
Because the match is scheduled near the Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup and Metro Bank One Day Cup, the selectors have chosen to prioritise those domestic games and have chosen a young team that includes a number of players who participated in the Women’s Under-19 World Cup in January.
These include Phoebe Brett, Olivia Brinsden, Charlotte Stubbs, and skipper Jones, a wicketkeeper who was selected for the ICC’s team of the tournament after taking nine wickets, including seven stumpings, during England’s run to the semi-finals.
Following the match, West Indies will stay in Canterbury, where the first Twenty20 International match against England is scheduled on Wednesday.
ECB Development XI: Katie Jones (Somerset; captain), Ellie Anderson (Somerset), Phoebe Brett (Warwickshire), Olivia Brinsden (Lancashire), Emma Corney (Somerset), Lauren Filer (Durham), Liberty Heap (Lancashire), Tilly Kesteven (Lancashire), Bethan Miles (Surrey), Chloe Skelton (Somerset), Charlotte Stubbs (Durham), Annie Williams (The Blaze), Genevieve Jeer (Surrey non-playing role)
