Lauren Hemp underwent knee surgery, which resulted in her omission from the England squad and many other key names.
Lauren Hemp and Ella Toone are ruled out of the England squad for back-to-back friendlies against the USA and Switzerland.
Following a successful surgery, Manchester City announced that Hemp would “return to the City Football Academy to work closely with the club’s medical team on her rehabilitation.”
Sarina Wiegman and Gareth Taylor are much missing the winger, who has been in excellent form this season, generating 26 opportunities in seven WSL games.
Before Sunday, Toone had made 96 straight WSL starts, but Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner revealed he suffered an injury during training last week.
“She’ll miss the international window, where we’ll keep assessing her, and then we’ll see whether she’s back for the block of three games after that, but I can only update you as of then,” he said.
Hemp and Toone are joined on the England injury list by Lucy Parker, Lauren James, and Niamh Charles. As part of Wiegman’s 24-man squad for the friendly, midfielder Laura Blindkilde Brown of Manchester City and defender Ruby Mace of Leicester have been called up for the first time as senior internationals.
England’s last 2024 games are against the Emma Hayes-led USA on Saturday, November 30, and the hosts of Euro 2025, Switzerland, at Bramall Lane on Tuesday.
Hayes is bringing along 15 of the 22 players who won gold at the July Olympics, but the front three—Trinity Rodman, Sophia Smith, and Mallory Swanson—will not be available due to persistent injuries.
