Leicester face PSR charges by Premier League as accusations relate to 2023-24 season in the EFL championship.
Leicester face PSR and possible points deduction after Premier League brings charges.
That is one of three alleged violations that have been referred to an independent panel in connection with the 2023–24 season, when Leicester was promoted to the top division.
Delegated After an independent panel determined last year that the Premier League lacked the authority to punish Leicester for allegedly violating the PSR threshold in 2022–2023, the club will play in the second division next season, but new regulations state a penalty can be given at any time.
Leicester had claimed that since they had been demoted to the Championship at the conclusion of their accounting period on June 30, they could not be punished by the Premier League.
The disagreement over the 2022–2023 accounts was resolved by a tribunal, but Leicester is now facing charges for the subsequent season.
Leicester is also accused of violating the Premier League’s requirements to submit its annual accounts by December 31, 2024, and to give the league “full, complete, and prompt assistance” in answering its questions. They will “engage cooperatively in this matter,” according to Leicester.
“The EFL commenced an investigation into this reporting period following the March 2024 submissions and as is permitted in accordance with EFL regulations, jurisdiction for that passed to the Premier League at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season on the club’s promotion. We will now await the outcome of the Premier League proceedings and until then are not able to comment any further on the matter.”
