Lineup for the playoffs secured as all teams’ final positions set after RCB’s stunning victory over the Super Giants.
Lineup for the playoffs are decided as RCB to face PBKS in Qualifier 1, MI vs GT in Eliminator.
On May 29, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated table-toppers Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final league match of the 2025 Indian Premier League to finish second and guarantee their place in Qualifier 1. Gujarat Titans (GT), who place third as a result, will play Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator on May 30.
After placing in the top two in 2011 and 2016, RCB made their third participation in Qualifier 1 after chasing down 228 against the Lucknow Super Giants with half-centuries from Virat Kohli and stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma. Rishabh Pant’s 61-ball 118 was in vain.
After one game each was called off due to weather, RCB and PBKS finished with 19 points apiece, with PBKS having a higher net run rate. MI was on 16 points after PBKS had upset them the day before, guaranteeing them a top-two finish. In the meantime, GT finished with 18 points after losing to LSG and Chennai Super Kings in their last two games.
It appeared that RCB would have to play the Eliminator after Pant’s century put LSG down to 227 for 3, but Jitesh’s undefeated 33-ball 85 allowed them to finish the third-highest chase in IPL history. The first team to win each of its seven assigned away games was RCB.
While GT and MI will play at the same venue on Friday, RCB will only have one day to get ready for their Qualifier 1 encounter against PBKS in New Chandigarh on Thursday.
Ahmedabad will host the second qualifier on June 1 and the final on June 3.
