Lisa Keightley replaces Charlotte Edwards as MI WPL head coach, with the latter in her role as England women’s head coach.
Lisa Keightley named Mumbai Indians head coach for WPL.
Charlotte Edwards has been replaced as head coach of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) by Lisa Keightley, a former batter for Australia. After leading MI for the first three years of the WPL, Edwards resigned earlier this year to become the head coach of the England Women’s team, leaving MI without a head coach.
“It’s an honour to join the Mumbai Indians, a team that has set the benchmark in the WPL,” Keightley said in a release. “The culture of excellence and care is something I deeply admire. I look forward to working with this talented group to build on our success and continue inspiring on and off the field.”
In recent years, Keightley has held a number of coaching positions, including those with England Women, Australia Women, Delhi Capitals (WPL), Sydney Thunder (WBBL), and most recently, leading Northern Superchargers to the Women’s Hundred title less than a month ago. Keightley won the ODI World Cup twice with Australia in 1997 and 2005.
The most successful WPL team, MI, who have won two titles in three years, will now be led by her. They defeated DC in the championship game to win the first season in 2023. MI defeated DC in the final of 2025 after losing to eventual champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2024 elimination round.
During his international career, which lasted from 1995 to 2005, Keightley played for Australia in nine Test matches, 82 ODIs, and one T20I. In 2007, she was selected as the first female coach of the Australian women’s team. She also held the position of coach for her native state, New South Wales (NSW).
