Litton Das named Bangladesh skipper for the T20 series against the West Indies for the first time in a full series.
Litton Das is Bangladesh captain for an entire T20I series for the first time. He had filled in once for Mahmudullah on the tour of New Zealand in April 2021.
Batting all-rounder Shamim Hossain is making a comeback. He hasn’t participated in a Twenty20 International or any other international game since December 2023 in New Zealand. The 24-year-old Shamim has dabbled in the format but hasn’t made a name for himself. He has scored 254 runs at a strike rate of 115.98 in 14 T20I innings, with his sole half-century coming at a peak of 51.
The somewhat surprising choice is Ripon Mondol, a tall, medium-fast bowler who is 21 years old. He participated in three Twenty20 Internationals in October 2023, all of which took place in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, where he took four wickets and helped Bangladesh finish third.
The normal all-format skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto, is remains out after suffering a hamstring injury during the November series against Afghanistan. Furthermore, there is no information available regarding Shakib Al Hasan’s availability or prospects for playing international cricket.
In addition to leading Bangladesh in the current ODI series, Mehidy Hasan Miraz captained the team in the Caribbean two-Test series, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Along with Mahmudullah, who has since retired from the format, Towhid Hridoy (groin injury), Mustafizur Rahman (on leave after becoming a parent), and Rakibul Hasan are absent from the team that played in India in October for the last Twenty20 International.
In addition to Shamim and Mondal, the following players have been named in for this series: middle-order batsman Afif Hossain, quick bowler Hasan Mahmud, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed, and top-order batsman Soumya Sarkar, who was instrumental in the Rangpur Riders’ recent victory in the Global Super League.
