Lords to hold significant space in cricketing administration as Jay Shah joins new MCC advisory board effective immediately.
Lords to hold the second World Cricket Connects forum. Former BCCI secretary and ICC chair Jay Shah has joined a new advisory board for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). This will take the place of the club’s world cricket committee.
Last year, when more than 100 prominent voices convened at Lord’s to examine the state of the global game at the inaugural World Cricket Connects meeting hosted by MCC, Shah was notably absent. However, he is one of the 13 original members of the new advisory board for World Cricket Connects, which will be led by Kumar Sangakkara, the former president of the MCC.
MCC chair Mark Nicholas said: “We are looking forward to welcoming many of the game’s most influential figures to debate the most important topics that dominate global cricket.”
“An important step has been made in the forming of the World Cricket Connects Advisory Board,” Nicholas said. “We have assembled an impressive group of the best minds in cricket across several different areas relevant to our sport. I am delighted to be working with this experienced group and excited about what we can collectively achieve for the benefit of the global game.”
Although the World Cricket Committee was an independent group with no official authority, the ICC frequently embraced its recommendations. Among these have been demands for the establishment of a World Test Championship. The implementation of day-night Test cricket, the creation of a Decision Review System. And the usage of a shot clock to increase slow over-rates.
MCC said: “This independent group will shape the annual World Cricket Connects agenda. It will help facilitate the event’s discussions and in turn maximise the opportunity for genuine impact on the health of the game.”
