
Lucknow Super Giants all set to name Rishabh Pant as their new skipper for the 2025 IPL season as they needed a new skipper.
Lucknow set to name Rishabh Pant as captain ahead of the 2025 season. At the November 2024 super auction, Pant was purchased by LSG for INR 27 crore (about US$ 3.21 million), making him the most expensive player in the IPL.

Pant will serve as captain for the second time in his career. After unsuccessful negotiations with the Delhi Capitals (DC). They wanted to keep him but weren’t completely committed to having him lead. Pant decided to go back into the auction because leadership was the main point of contention.
Five players were kept by LSG before to the auction. Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran, and Ravi Bishnoi.
But they were searching for an Indian player to take Rahul’s spot as captain. They had Pant and Shreyas Iyer at the top of their list. The Giants first defeated SRH in a tough bidding battle to purchase Pant for INR 20.75 crore during the auction. They then increased that amount to INR 27 crore.
Pant assumed captaincy in the 2021 Indian Premier League and remained in command until the 2023 season. He was sidelined due to injuries sustained in a potentially fatal vehicle accident in December 2022. He represented the Delhi Capitals since 2016.
The redesigned LSG team will include Indian seamers Avesh Khan and Akash Deep, as well as international batsmen Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and David Miller. Following the auction, Pooran, Marsh, Markram, and Miller were also considered as possible left-field captaincy choices.
Pant will now collaborate closely with new team mentor Zaheer Khan and head coach Justin Langer. He had both on and off the sidelines of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
