Lucknow T20i between India and South Africa abandoned due to fog-like conditions as series moves to Ahmedabad.
Due to low visibility in foggy Lucknow, there was no play in the fourth Twenty20 International between South Africa and India. India is now certain to extend their winning streak in T20I series to 15 after leading the series 2-1. The series finale is set to take place on Friday in Ahmedabad.
The umpires’ concerns persisted despite the dangerous AQI in Lucknow, which was in the early to mid-400s. One of the umpires would go to a square boundary during their inspections to check if he could see the white ball being held up by the pitch’s side. After six inspections, the play was ultimately cancelled at 9:26 p.m.
Winter cricket in northern India has always been a controversial topic. Delhi was given a test prior to Diwali, when the air quality in north India begins to deteriorate to hazardous levels, and the BCCI had planned a test for South Africa there until common sense took over.
The South African tour arrives in Ahmedabad on Friday. They blanked India 2-0 in the Tests and forced a decider in the ODI series, which India won 2-1, during what has been an incredibly successful visit. India is now 2-1 in the T20Is after two convincing victories in what is still their best format. However, the poor lighting in Lucknow prevented them from securing the series before the third match.
