Lucy Bronze on playing through injury the entire tournament after confirming she had been having a fractured tibia.
Lucy Bronze reveals she played with fractured tibia throughout Euro 2025.
Following England’s triumph over Spain in the Euro 2025 final, Lucy Bronze disclosed that she had suffered a fractured tibia during the entire competition.
The right-back stated she had played all six tournament games with a fractured tibia in her left leg, calling it “extremely painful.” She was substituted out during halftime of extra time of the final due to an injury to her right knee.
The fact that Bronze strapped her own thigh well into extra time before removing the strapping and scoring a strong penalty in the shootout caught everyone’s attention during the quarterfinal victory over Sweden.
“I’ve actually played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia but no one knew and then I’ve hurt my knee today on the other leg.
“I think that’s why I got a lot of praise from the girls after the Sweden game – because I’ve been through a lot of pain. But that’s what it takes to play for England. That’s what I’ll do. They know that and I think we inspire each other by playing through things like that and it got us to the end.”
Bronze claimed the two injuries will not hold her back when England continue their celebrations behind closed doors before returning home on Monday and travelling on Tuesday to a public celebratory gathering in central London. “I’m going to have a good time at the party, that’s all.”
