[Saba Sports News] Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic sustained a left-hand injury during a game against the LA Clippers. Attempting to steal the ball from James Harden, Doncic’s thumb became awkwardly entangled, yet he continued to play for 38 minutes.
Despite his effort, his performance was less effective (12-of-27 for 30 points), and the Mavericks lost 107-88.
Post-game, Doncic, who had his hand wrapped, reported that X-rays were negative but further evaluation was needed in Dallas. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd later updated that an MRI in Dallas confirmed a left thumb sprain, but Doncic wouldn’t miss game time. He was seen practicing free throws, apparently unbothered by the injury.
Doncic, 24, is enjoying a stellar season, averaging 30.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game, with a career-high 39.4 percent in three-point shooting. The Mavericks are currently fifth in the West with a 10-6 record.
The injury being on his non-shooting hand is somewhat of a relief for Doncic, who was already dealing with minor issues since the season’s start and now has this additional injury to manage.
