Maharaja T20 to be held in Mysuru having been moved from the existing venue of The Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru.
Following the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s (KSCA) inability to secure permission from the Bengaluru police to hold their franchise-based T20 competition at the M Chinnaswamy stadium from August 11 to 27, the Maharaja T20 has been rescheduled to Mysuru.
The franchise owners have only a few days to finish the logistics after being informed of the move earlier this week. Over the past week, the majority of teams—aside from the Mysuru Warriors—have been training at various locations throughout Bengaluru. Given that the stadium will host five Women’s World Cup matches beginning on September 30, including the tournament opener and one semifinal, the KSCA may suffer a significant setback if they are unable to secure authorisation to host games at the Chinnaswamy. The ICC isn’t too concerned about the prospect of relocating the games outside of Bengaluru just yet, though.
Since 11 people lost their lives and more than 50 were hurt during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory celebrations on June 4 at the Chinnaswamy stadium, the KSCA has been in the news. Two KSCA office bearers were also compelled to quit due to the rush, citing moral culpability.
The Maharaja T20s were originally scheduled to take place in Bengaluru behind closed doors. However, it became impossible to obtain permission to perform in the Chinnaswamy, whether or not there was an audience, when the committee’s decision was made. Now, the KSCA is concentrating on ensuring that everything in Mysuru runs well. At Wadeyar Stadium, they have begun setting up temporary broadcast facilities, squares, pitches, and improvised stands.
Following their return from India’s Test series in England, Karun Nair and Prasidh Krishna, two well-known Karnataka players, will play for Mysuru Warriors in the Maharaja T20.
