Major boost for England as Mark Wood cleared of hamstring injury and will continue to train as planned ahead of the first test.
Scans clear Mark Wood of hamstring injury in major boost for visitors.
In a relief for England before the Ashes, Mark Wood has been cleared of a hamstring injury; nonetheless, he will not play on the last day of England’s only warm-up match against the England Lions at Lilac Hill in Perth.
After bowling two four-over periods to begin the three-day encounter, Wood developed soreness in his left hamstring on Friday, which was frightening for England. Midway through the second session, he exited the pitch after his second spell before being sent for scans.
Additionally, the ECB stated that Wood would continue to train as scheduled in advance of the first Test, which is scheduled to begin in Perth on November 21. However, it is unclear whether England would choose him or not.
“Following precautionary scans on Friday, England fast bowler Mark Wood has been cleared of any concerns regarding his left hamstring,” the ECB said in a statement.
When it comes to Wood’s recovery from the knee injury he suffered at the Champions Trophy in February, England has been careful. A training setback ultimately prevented him from participating in the full home season, despite his initial hopes of playing in the last Test of their summer series against India.
At Lilac Hill, a residential facility on the outskirts of Perth, Wood had bowled a few of vigorous deliveries on the first day on a comparatively calm surface.
After being absent due to illness on the first day of the warm-up match, Brydon Carse has returned to the pitch. Ben Stokes, Josh Tongue, Matt Potts, Gus Atkinson, and Jofra Archer are further quick-bowling options on the team.
