Martinez’s Aston Villa future under scanner after tearful greeting for the fans after Villa’s win over Tottenham.
Unai Emery said “we will see” about Emiliano Martinez’s Aston Villa future.
Following Villa’s 2-0 victory in their final home game of the season, who are vying for the Champions League, the 32-year-old appeared distraught at full time.
Martinez, a two-time Best FIFA Men’s Keeper winner, has made 211 appearances for Villa since joining from Arsenal in 2020.
“We shall see,” Emery said when asked about Martinez’s future.
“Of course, it is the last match here [this season], and I don’t know.
“We will see about the team, the players, but of course, they are responding on the field.”
With the victory over Spurs, Aston Villa moved into the top five. However, with Manchester City still playing, they will probably need to defeat Manchester United on Sunday and hope for other favourable outcomes to guarantee back-to-back Champions League seasons.
“Of course, then we will see about everything, how we are going to try to get better for the next season,” Emery said.
