Mason Mount on United’s ambitions this season as he believes club should aim to return to Europe immediately.
Mason Mount says Man Utd should aim for European return.
Mason Mount, a midfielder, says Manchester United’s “the focus” this season is qualifying for Europe.
The 2025–26 season will mark only United’s second season without playing in Europe since Uefa banned English clubs in the 1980s after the Heysel stadium disaster.
For the first time since 14–15, there won’t be any European games at Old Trafford due to their Europa League final loss to Tottenham and their 15th-place league performance from the previous season.
“Europe is a massive, massive thing for us,” Mount said.
“The Champions League would be amazing for us and as a group we want to be playing in that competition.
“But I’d say Europe. I think that’s the focus.”
After finishing 23 points behind seventh-place Nottingham Forest, who secured the last European qualification spots based on a league position, Ruben Amorim’s team needs to improve on their 24–25 performance.
United has already spent over £125 million to acquire Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo and Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.
They are also still being linked to forwards; the most recent target of rumours was Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa, who was linked to a transfer for Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea.
Alejandro Garnacho, an unpopular winger, was rumoured to be leaving the team.
