Matthew Forde out of Pakistan series with dislocated shoulder as Johann Layne has replaced him in the squad.
Matthew Forde, a seamer for the West Indies, will not play in the three-match ODI series against Pakistan, which begins on Friday in Tarouba. During a training session earlier on Wednesday, Forde attempted a catch and dislocated his shoulder.
Forde has been replaced in the squad by Johann Layne, a seam-bowling all-rounder from the West Indies academy.
Their ODI team’s quicks are Jediah Blades, Shamar Joseph, Romario Shepherd, and Jayden Seales, while their front-line wristspinner is Gudakesh Motie. We’ve rested Alzarri Joseph. Forde’s ability to bat lower in the order would also be missed by the West Indies; he set the ODI record for the fastest fifty (16 balls) in May against Ireland.
With the tour shifting to Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies hopes to win a fourth consecutive ODI series after losing the T20I series against Pakistan 2-1 at Lauderhill. Although this is only their fifth ODI series since 2023 began, they enter the match having defeated Bangladesh once (3-0) and England twice (2-1).
West Indies has struggled with the 50-over format recently, losing out for the last two ICC ODI championships. Given that they are rated tenth in the rankings, their qualifying for the 2027 ODI World Cup is likewise far from assured. Realistically, the West Indies must place one spot higher than themselves in the top nine to guarantee automatic passage on the deadline. They would greatly benefit from a series victory over Pakistan, who are six spots higher in the rankings.
