[Saba Sports News] India’s impressive run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, with five consecutive wins, has placed them at the top of the points table with ten points from five matches. A significant factor behind their success has been the outstanding form of star batsman Virat Kohli, who is the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan is highly impressed with Kohli’s form and believes he will break Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI hundreds in the current mega event. Vaughan compared Kohli to legendary Argentine footballer Lionel Messi, who played a pivotal role in leading his team to victory in the FIFA World Cup 2022 and was named Player of the Tournament.
Vaughan stated, ‘Virat Kohli in the chase, there’s no one better. It wouldn’t surprise me if he gets a 49th century before the final, and his 50th in the final. It’s written in the stars… Virat has already won a World Cup, but you just feel he’s going to drive the Indian team all the way.’
Kohli currently has 48 ODI centuries and came close to matching Tendulkar’s world record of 49 centuries in India’s last match against New Zealand in Dharamsala, falling just five runs short while attempting to reach the milestone with a six.
In the five matches of the tournament so far, Kohli has amassed 354 runs at an average of 118 and a strike rate of 90.53, including one century and three fifties. His innings of 85 against Australia, 55* against Afghanistan, and an unbeaten 103 against Bangladesh were pivotal in India’s success.
Kohli will aim to continue his exceptional form as India faces England on Sunday, October 29 in Lucknow.
