Michail Antonio hails and meets people who saved his life.
“Meeting these people who saved my life has been very humbling.”
Michail Antonio, a striker for West Ham, has undergone a transformation as a result of his near-death experience, which has forced him to deal with both emotional and physical challenges during his recuperation.
The 35-year-old had to endure a torturous road back to fitness after being engaged in a car accident over six months prior that left him hospitalised for more than three weeks with a shattered leg.
After breaking a thigh bone when his Ferrari went off the road and collided with a tree in Epping Forest, he is now on his feet and pursuing his recovery program.
After training, the Jamaican international was headed home.
Antonio is trying to move forward by taking stock of the past. He spoke with individuals who answered emergency calls on December 7 and spent time on BBC One’s Morning Live recalling incidents that endangered not only his career but also his life.
“I want to say thank you,” he told Essex and Herts Air Ambulance paramedics Rob Moon and Dr James Moloney, “because obviously I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you guys.
“You saved my life, so you guys are basically my heroes.”
