Mitch Starc opts out of rejoining the DC camp for the IPL with the team waiting for an update on Faf du Plessis.
Mitch Starc opts out against rejoining DC for remainder of IPL 2025.
The change eliminates the chance of Starc playing Twenty20s in India a week prior to the match, giving them a clean path to the World Test Championship (WTC) final. With 14 wickets at 26.14 in 11 games this season, Starc leads DC in wicket-taking.
While Tristan Stubbs has announced that he will return to Washington for the remainder of the league phase before departing for the WTC final, Faf du Plessis’ return to Washington is still up in the air.
In addition, DC signed Mustafizur Rahman to replace Jake Fraser-McGurk, who would not be going back to India. Mustafizur’s participation is somewhat doubtful, though, as the BCB has said that it has not been asked for a non-objection certificate for the cricket player, who is now in Sharjah to participate in a T20I series against the United Arab Emirates.
Both Travis Head and Pat Cummins, two of the other Australians competing in the IPL, are going back to India to join Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who are eliminated from the playoffs and wrap up their season-ending games on May 25. This will allow both players ample time to get ready for the WTC final.
Before deciding whether to return to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for their title challenge, Josh Hazlewood will evaluate a persistent shoulder ailment. Mitchell Marsh will return for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), but Josh Inglis has still to decide if he would rejoin the Punjab Kings (PBKS).
