[Saba Sports News] Former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who retired in December 2020 citing ‘mental torture’ by team management, had discussions about a potential return following changes in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) leadership in December 2022.
However, Amir, who last played for Pakistan in August 2020, has moved on, focusing on his changed priorities and life, as revealed by Mohammad Hafeez, the newly appointed team director.
“I called Amir, I told that if he wanted to play for Pakistan, he has to first take his retirement back. ‘Go back to domestic cricket and perform. Then, the selection committee will assess your performances and select you. Once you return to Pakistan, I will assure that you will get equal opportunities’, I told him. He said he had already moved on. He believes his priorities has changed, his life has changed. And we have to respect his decision,” Hafeez shared.
He added, “He told me he feels better playing at international leagues. He does not want to start from scratch again. That is his decision, and we have to respect that,” he added.
Hafeez shared that Amir is not interested in starting from scratch in domestic cricket and prefers playing in international leagues. Amir’s career highlights include a comeback in 2017, leading Pakistan to a Champions Trophy win and being the top wicket-taker in the 2019 World Cup. Despite his past achievements, Amir has chosen to stay away from the national team.
