Molly Penfold to miss three months of cricket for NZ after surgery correct a knee injury that she sustained.
Molly Penfold has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury meaning she will miss the series against Sri Lanka and Australia.
Playing in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield earlier this month, Penfold, 23, suffered a torn meniscus to her left knee. She had surgery and could take up to 12 weeks to recover.
“We’re all gutted for Molly,” Ben Sawyer, the New Zealand head coach, said. “It’s a really unfortunate way for her summer to end, especially after strong contributions during the Rose Bowl series. The positive is that her recovery timelines should see her fit for our winter training schedule.”
In 14 ODIs and 10 T20Is, Penfold has claimed nine and seven wickets, respectively. She took a career-high 4 for 42 in the second game of the ODI series against Australia last December at the Basin Reserve.
Sophie Devine, whose participation against Australia has not yet been confirmed, will also miss New Zealand’s matches against Sri Lanka as she continues her hiatus from the game.
Next month, New Zealand will play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) and three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Sri Lanka.
Chamari Athapaththu will leave the WPL early to take part in the tour but Amelia Kerr will remain in India.
