Moyes on the radar for sensational Everton homecoming after Sean Dyche’s untimely sacking earlier this week.
Moyes has been sounded out by Everton’s new owners to become the club’s new manager.
David Moyes, who fired Sean Dyche just hours before Everton’s FA Cup match against Peterborough United, is anticipated to be given the opportunity to return to Goodison Park by the club’s new owners. Since departing West Ham at the end of the previous campaign, Moyes, who left Everton for Manchester United in 2013, has remained unemployed.
The Friedkin Group (TFG), which is looking for players who could guarantee the club’s top-flight status this season, finds the Scot appealing due to his availability and extensive knowledge of the Premier League and Everton. It may not take long for Everton to appoint its first manager. On Friday, negotiations with Moyes will continue.
José Mourinho, who is currently in charge of Fenerbahce after being fired by TFG from Roma a year ago, is not being considered. Just over three hours prior to the FA Cup third-round match at Goodison, Dyche’s departure was made public. Leighton Baines, the coach of the Under-18 team, and Séamus Coleman, the captain of the team, were asked to step in at short notice.
Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard, and Billy Mercer, who were part of Dyche’s backroom staff, have all departed the team. After telling TFG that he believed he had carried Everton as far as he could, the 53-year-old is rumoured to have been negotiating a payout since Monday.
when emphasising the value of stability when the takeover was completed on December 19, Everton’s owners were hesitant to make a change at such an early point in the team’s history. TFG thought that Dyche’s mindset had altered following losses to Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, even though they had discussed supporting him during the January transfer window, subject to the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The topic of severance arrangements quickly came up.
Dyche was looking for a pay package that would cover bonuses in addition to the remaining six months of his Everton contract. Dyche rejected TFG’s refusal, arguing that his attitude towards the position amounted to his resignation. As soon as the conditions of compensation were agreed upon, he was fired. It is decided that TFG cannot be characterised as a soft touch.
Tensions arose over transfers with Kevin Thelwell, the club’s director of football, and the now-former Everton manager won just one of his final 11 Premier League games as manager. His team also failed to score in eight of those games. However, TFG took action after Dyche acknowledged that he could do no more with the existing team.
Graham Potter was the subject of curiosity earlier this week, but it did not progress to the point where a contract offer was made to the incoming West Ham manager. At 4:32 p.m., a club statement was released.
“Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as senior men’s first team manager with immediate effect. Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the club.
“The process to appoint a new manager is under way and an update will be provided in due course. Under‑18s head coach Leighton Baines and club captain Séamus Coleman will take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis.”
