Mumbai players use face masks because of construction pollution.
On the opening day of their Ranji Trophy encounter against Delhi at the Bandra Kurla Complex pitch, Mumbai players were had to wear face masks to protect themselves from pollution brought on by construction.
During the third session of play, Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan, his younger brother Musheer Khan, and spinner Himanshu Singh were observed donning facial masks. The circumstances were “unhealthy” as the players battled on the pitch on Thursday, with the AQI hovering around 160.
Even though the city’s pollution levels are still high, players rarely wear face masks while they play. However, on Thursday afternoon, the issue was made worse by a building construction site adjacent to the ground.
“There wasn’t any banter [about it], but new construction work is being carried out here and because of that the players were feeling the pollution and having issues in breathing, so they put those on,” Mumbai seamer Mohit Avasthi said.
