Musheer Khan, the talented Mumbai batter and younger brother of India cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, was involved in a serious car accident in Uttar Pradesh.
As a result, the teenager will miss the upcoming Irani Cup in Lucknow and the start of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season.
Musheer was traveling from Azamgarh to Lucknow with his father, Naushad Khan, and two others when their car collided with a divider on the Purvanchal Expressway.
While his father and the other passengers sustained minor injuries, Musheer suffered a concussion and neck pain. He was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
Doctors estimate that Musheer will need at least 16 weeks to recover, with the possibility of an undiagnosed fracture. He is scheduled to return to Mumbai on Sunday for additional treatment.
“He met with an accident last night and will miss the Irani Cup. He will be flying back to Mumbai on Sunday. The MCA and BCCI medical teams are monitoring his condition, and the BCCI will conduct further tests once he’s back,” an MCA official shared.
Musheer was supposed to join the Mumbai team for the Irani Cup from his hometown, where he had been training. However, after a dip in form in the Duleep Trophy, his father, Naushad, requested that Musheer train in Azamgarh instead.
The MCA agreed, but his plans were cut short by the accident.
Defending Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai will play the Rest of India in the Irani Cup from October 1 to 5 in Lucknow. Musheer’s replacement has not been named yet, and he is expected to miss the early rounds of the Ranji Trophy, starting October 11.
Musheer recently scored his maiden First-Class double hundred and a century in the Ranji Trophy final, helping Mumbai secure their 42nd title. In just nine First-Class matches, he has amassed over 700 runs at an average of 50, including three centuries and a fifty.
