Mussolini’s great-grandson has triggered an investigation by the Italian federation following alleged fascist salutes.
After fans of the second division team, Juve Stabia, seemed to give fascist salutes in celebration of a goal scored by Benito Mussolini’s great-grandson, the Italian football organisation launched an investigation.
Romano Floriani Mussolini, 21, scored the lone goal during the team’s victory over Cesena at home, as seen. Dozens of spectators saw to react with the fascist salute and fervent cries of “Mussolini” each time the announcer called out “Romano” seven times.
The Football Federation (FIGC) declared that it was investigating the situation. “The Serie B sports judge will receive a report on the incident from the federal prosecutor’s office [of the FIGC] for a decision,” it stated.

Juve Stabia, in a statement posted to their website, rejected any connection between the gestures of its fans and fascism. “For 117 years, the club has celebrated the goals of its team,” it said. “When the name of the scoring player is announced. We raise our arms to the sky as a sign of the team that is in our heart and which represents the city. This was once again the case with this goal.”
