Nandre Burger ruled out of South Africa’s next few series after suffering a “lumbar stress reaction” in the lower back.
Nandre Burger has been ruled out of remainder of the three-match ODI series against Ireland.
Burger “experienced discomfort in his lower back, and subsequent scans revealed the injury,” CSA said in a statement on Friday, not long before the start of the second ODI, adding that Burger “will return home and undergo further assessments”.
South Africa leads the series 1-0 after winning the first game by 139 runs. There was no news on a replacement for the third One-Day International (ODI). But the (CSA) stated that one would be “announced in due course” for the Test matches in Dhaka and Chattogram. The fast-bowling alternatives for that team include Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson, and Wiaan Mulder.
Tony de Zorzi will not be playing in the second ODI against Ireland. According to the CSA, de Zorzi was sidelined from the game as a precaution after sustaining “a soft tissue injury of his right knee”.v
In the opening ODI on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, he injured his knee while trying to slide and field the ball in the deep on the sand-based outfield. He left the field right away and was observed carefully strolling along the sidelines. He didn’t go back to playing, and on Thursday, MRI tests showed the injury.
De Zorzi is also included in the Bangladesh Test team, where he will most likely open for Aiden Markram. There isn’t a backup opener in the lineup in the form of uncapped Matthew Breetzke. Tristan Stubbs, skipper Temba Bavuma, David Bedingham, and one of the wicketkeeper-batters, Ryan Rickelton or Kyle Verreynne, will probably constitute the middle-order.
