Nehra gets demerit point while Hardik gets second over-rate fine in the aftermath of last night’s thriller between MI and GT.
Nehra gets a demerit point and is penalised for “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”.
Due to the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) slow over-rate in their Tuesday night loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) at home, Hardik Pandya and his teammates (first XI plus impact substitute Karn Sharma) have all been punished with fines.
As is customary in the IPL, MI had to bring an extra fielder into the 30-yard circle for the last over, the 19th, of the chase in the stop-start second half of the match between MI and GT, when rain forced the players to leave the pitch and return a few times. To get off that Deepak Chahar over and cross the finish line with the final ball, GT needed to score 15 runs.
Since this was MI’s second offence under his leadership this season, Hardik was fined INR 24 lakh. Each of his teammates was fined INR 6 lakh or 25% of their individual match fees, whichever was lower.
When it appeared that Nehra wanted the umpires to restart the game following the most recent rain stoppage, he was at his most passionate during the last minutes of the match. Although the IPL did not specify the specific nature of his infraction, he was fined 25% of his match money and given one demerit point for violating Article 2.20 of the IPL code of conduct.
For violating the IPL’s code, a coach has now received a demerit point for the second time. Following their Super Over victory over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Delhi on April 16, bowling coach Munaf Patel of the Delhi Capitals (DC) was also disciplined.
Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Sanju Samson, Rajat Patidar, and Riyan Parag are just a few of Hardik’s many countrymen.
