Neil Maupay attracts ire of Everton fans with demeaning tweet that appears to poke fun at his former employers.
Neil Maupay made fun of his parent club in a social media post, which infuriated Everton supporters. When Maupay left on loan to Everton in the summer, he also made fun of the French team, and his most recent jab has infuriated the Premier League team’s fans even more.
The 28-year-old posted on X after Sean Dyche’s side had lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park on Sunday: “Whenever I’m having a bad day I just check the Everton score and smile.”
One of the Toffees’ supporters who replied to Maupay was retired boxer Tony Bellew. The former world cruiserweight champion just replied: “P***k”
After being signed by Everton for an undisclosed price in 2022, Maupay had a terrible stint there, scoring just one league goal in 29 games.
He left Goodison for the second time in August when Marseille signed him on loan with the option to make the transfer permanent after leaving on a season-long loan to his old team, Brentford, for the 2023–24 campaign.
Following his departure from Everton in the summer, Maupay infuriated their supporters on social media by sharing a scene from The Shawshank Redemption, which tells the story of the protagonist’s protracted struggle for freedom.
