Newcastle defender Dan Burn extends contract with Magpies, with the local lad set to stay with the club till 2027.
England and Newcastle defender Dan Burn has signed a contract extension and will remain at St James’ Park until summer 2027.
The 33-year-old, who was entering the last year of his contract when he joined the Magpies from Brighton in January 2022, has had an incredible season.
In March, they defeated Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final to win their first major domestic trophy in seven decades, and he scored the first goal and was named player of the match.
Burn made his international debut in March’s World Cup qualifying match against Albania in the first game under new manager Thomas Tuchel. This season, Burn has made 45 appearances across all competitions, missing only one Premier League match.
“I’m delighted to sign a new deal here,” said Burn, who hails from nearby Blyth.
“I knew that I was going into my last year and I really wanted to get my future tied down. I’ve said before that I would love to finish my career here so to be given that opportunity, I’m very grateful.
Burn added: “I still feel like I’m getting better and I don’t feel that I’ve hit the top of the hill yet.
“It’ll be tough to top this season but hopefully we can do that over the next couple of years. It’s a dream come true to be playing for this club and I’m delighted that I get to keep doing it.”
Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe said: “Dan has had an incredible season. He has been a key part of our most memorable moments and has rightly been rewarded with senior international football.
“He is a leader who epitomises the attitude and commitment we want, and I’m delighted he’ll be staying with us for even longer.”
