RCB senior official Nikhil Sosale granted interim bail by Karnataka High Court
The Karnataka High Court has granted interim bail to Nikhil Sosale, the senior Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) administrator who was detained in connection with the June 4 incident that resulted in a stampede that killed 11 people during the team’s victory celebrations.
Sosale and two representatives of DNA Entertainment, RCB’s event management company, were freed on certain terms, chief among them being the return of their passports.
In Thursday’s hearing, Sosale’s lawyers argued that the arrests had been made solely on “the orders of the Chief Minister [Siddaramaiah without conducting any investigation and collecting any material to point out that the petitioners were responsible for the stampede.”
Two days after RCB’s IPL 2025 triumph, on June 5, Bengaluru Police said they had refused RCB permission to hold their victory parade at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is where the stampede that resulted in injuries took place.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), which is in control of the stadium grounds, and RCB were named as the first culprit along with DNA Entertainment. Following this, on June 7, two top KSCA officials—secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam—resigned from their positions, citing “moral responsibility.”
As things stand, parent firm Diageo is probably going to conduct an internal investigation into Sosale and every other RCB official who is a member of the executive team. Since apologising publicly in a press release the day following the incident, RCB has refrained from commenting on the situation.
Since then, their platforms have not seen any upgrades or social media posts.
