Noakhali Express coaches storm out midway through practice owing to the lack of enough balls to train with.
‘I will not work in the BPL’ – Noakhali Express coaches raise a stink over poor arrangements.
A day before the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season begins, Noakhali Express head coach Khaled Mahmud stormed out of the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Thursday during a training session. He and assistant coach Talha Jubair got into an autorickshaw after Mahmud complained about the lack of training arrangements, including the scarcity of balls.
However, Mahmud described the event as a “misunderstanding” and the two went back to the stadium.
The coaches discovered only a few practice balls when they arrived at the stadium on Thursday for training. Express was supposed to play Chattogram Royals in a match between two new teams on Friday, the first day of the competition.
Jubair and Mahmud left the stadium right away.
“I will not work in the BPL under these circumstances. I have never seen this in the BPL before,” Mahmud told reporters while getting into the vehicle, locally called CNG.
A few team members attempted to convince Mahmud and Jubair to come back to the location by promising that the error would not happen again. But Mahmud did not alter his position.
However, once the instructors departed, the players continued to exercise at the Sylhet stadium. They have players from Bangladesh including Hasan Mahmud, Soumya Sarkar, and Jaker Ali in addition to well-known international players like Johnson Charles, Kusal Mendis, and Mohammad Nabi.
Mahmud later said that he “may have overreacted” after not receiving sufficient facilities during training. “It was a misunderstanding,” he said. “I think I may have overreacted in the moment. There were not enough facilities in training. I didn’t get the equipments I needed. That’s when I lost my temper. I think I behaved poorly at that instance. I want to thank the owners. I spoke to them. The BCB have also spoken to me.”
