North Zone name Shubman Gill as their skipper for Duleep Trophy with Shubham Rohilla if selected for the Asia Cup.
Shubman Gill to lead North Zone in Duleep Trophy.
Later this month, the domestic season will begin in Bengaluru with the 2025-26 Duleep Trophy, which will be led by India’s Test captain Shubman Gill.
The North Zone team also included seamers Arshdeep Singh and Anshul Kamboj, who were previously involved in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. North Zone’s seam attack will get depth from Harshit Rana, who made his Test debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy the previous year.
However, Shubham Rohilla, Gurnoor Brar, and Anuj Thakral will take their position for the Duleep Trophy if Gill, Arshdeep, or Harshit are selected for India’s Asia Cup squad.
The Asia Cup will take place from September 9 to September 28. The Duleep Trophy will begin on August 28 and the final will take place from September 11 to September 15.
Ankit Kumar, the leading scorer for Haryana in the last Ranji Trophy season with 574 runs in 14 innings at an average of over 59, was named vice-captain of the North Zone. The left-arm spin bowling all-rounder Nishant Sindhu, who plays for Haryana, also made the squad.
The only Delhi players in the team are Ayush Badoni, Harshit Rana, and Yash Dhull, the former captain of India’s Under-19 World Cup winning team. The Delhi Premier League T20 tournament’s second season is where the three are playing right now.
Following a season in which the senior men’s selection committee, under by Ajit Agarkar, selected four teams (A, B, C, and D) with players competing in the Test match, the Duleep Trophy has returned to its original format of a zonal game. The zonal selection committees, which consist of one representative from each state side in the zone, will choose the teams for this year’s competition.
At the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, North Zone will play East Zone in the first match of the domestic season starting on August 28.
