Norwich name Jack Wilshere interim manager after sacking Johannes Hoff Thorup following a 3-1 loss to Milwall.
Norwich name Jack Wilshere in charge of the last 3 games of the season. The club dismissed Johannes Hoff Thorup.
After just winning twice in 14 games, Norwich dropped to 14th place in the Championship. Their 3-1 loss at Millwall on Easter Monday was their fourth straight loss. The Dane departs with his assistant, Glen Riddersholm, after Thorup was named head coach in May of last year on a three-year contract.
Norwich sporting director, Ben Knapper, said: “Whilst we made this appointment with a long-term focus and in line with our wider club strategy and direction, unfortunately recent results and performances have deemed it necessary for us to make a change.
“I’d like to place on record our sincere thanks to Johannes and Glen. They are both fantastic people who worked tirelessly to help improve and move our football club forward. We all wish the two of them the best in the next stage of their respective careers.”
After stints with West Ham, Bournemouth, and the Danish team AGF, Wilshere, a former midfielder for Arsenal and England, announced his retirement from competition in 2022 at the age of thirty. Prior to joining Thorup’s coaching staff at Norwich in October, he was named coach of Arsenal’s Under-18 team and guided them to the FA Youth Cup final in 2022–2023.
Before playing relegation-threatened Cardiff in their season finale on May 3, Norwich will travel to playoff-chasing Middlesbrough on Saturday. The Wales captain has been named Cardiff’s interim manager until the end of the season, while Wilshere’s old teammate Aaron Ramsey will be in the opposing dugout at Carrow Road.
After their own dreams of making the playoffs were all but dashed, West Brom fired Tony Mowbray on Monday.
