[Saba Sports News] The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Event Technical Committee has given approval for Anamul Haque Bijoy to replace Shakib Al Hasan in the Bangladesh squad. Shakib was sidelined due to a fracture in his left-hand index finger sustained during Bangladesh’s match against Sri Lanka on November 6.
During the Sri Lanka match, Shakib was struck on the finger and subsequently underwent X-ray scans in New Delhi, confirming the fracture in his index finger. National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan provided further details, stating that it would take Shakib at least three to four weeks to recover. Unfortunately, Shakib will miss Bangladesh’s final league stage match in the ongoing World Cup as the team has already been eliminated from the ICC tournament after a series of losses.
In a controversial incident during their game against Sri Lanka, Shakib appealed against Angelo Mathews after Mathews took some time to secure his helmet strap. This appeal generated significant controversy, as Shakib chose not to withdraw it despite concerns about its impact on the ‘spirit of cricket,’ leading to severe backlash from fans and experts worldwide.
