[Saba Sports News] In the 37th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, Team India secured a commanding 243-run victory over South Africa. The standout moment of the game was Virat Kohli’s record-equalling 49th ODI century, which played a pivotal role in India’s triumph. Remarkably, this milestone coincided with Kohli’s 35th birthday.
After the match, a special birthday cake was cut in celebration at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. On his 35th birthday, Kohli delivered a remarkable performance, scoring an unbeaten century with 101 runs from 121 balls. This achievement put him on par with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli also formed a formidable 134-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer, who contributed 77 runs, guiding India to a formidable total of 326 for five.
Following India’s impressive batting display, the bowlers showcased their prowess. Ravindra Jadeja was the standout performer, claiming a five-wicket haul with figures of 5/33. Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each, with figures of 2/18 and 2/7, respectively, while Mohammed Siraj added one wicket for just 11 runs. The superb bowling spells led to South Africa’s dismissal for a mere 83 runs in 27.1 overs.
In the ODI World Cup 2023 clash between India and South Africa, the hosts made a strong start as skipper Rohit Sharma (40 runs off 24 balls) and Shubman Gill (23 runs) provided a solid foundation with a 62-run partnership. Rohit Sharma’s aggressive batting helped India reach the 50-run mark in just 4.3 overs. After the departure of Rohit and Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer continued to dominate the South African bowlers. Ravindra Jadeja’s quick, unbeaten 29-run innings off 15 balls guided India to their imposing total.
Both India and South Africa have already secured their spots in the semifinals, underlining their strength and form in the tournament.
