[Saba Sports News] India continued their winning streak in the ODI World Cup 2023, defeating England by 100 runs in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29. Despite scoring just 229 in the first innings, India’s bowlers and fielders put up a formidable defense.
Following the comprehensive win, India’s fielding coach T Dilip announced KL Rahul as the ‘best fielder’ of the match, marking the second time Rahul received this accolade. He had previously won the award for his performance against Pakistan on October 14.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been using creative ways to announce the best fielder of the match. After the game against Bangladesh in Pune, Ravindra Jadeja’s picture was displayed on the giant screen, and in the previous match against England, Shreyas Iyer’s photo was delivered by the Spidercam. This time, at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the floodlights went off, and KL Rahul’s name and jersey number appeared in the stands.
KL Rahul’s crucial partnership with Rohit Sharma laid the foundation for India’s victory. While India got off to a strong start thanks to Rohit Sharma’s aggressive batting, three quick wickets increased the pressure. Rohit needed support, and KL Rahul joined him at 40/3.
The experienced duo built a 91-run partnership for the fourth wicket off 111 deliveries, helping India recover from a challenging situation. Rahul has accumulated 216 runs in five innings in the tournament with an impressive average of 108.
