[Saba Sports News] Former England cricketer Steve Harmison criticized the ODI World Cup’s 15-player roster limit, urging the ICC to allow countries to name more players.
He cited England’s tough decision to drop opener Jason Roy to accommodate Harry Brook in the lineup. Harmison proposed that each team should have been able to select at least 18 players, with a requirement to play a minimum of nine games in ten different stadiums. He expects England will need more than 15 players due to the allowance of reserves for injured players.
Harmison emphasized the challenges England’s fast bowlers face, with multiple venues and flights. He suggested that a 15-man squad isn’t sufficient and should have been 18 or even 20, especially from a fast bowler’s perspective.
He pointed out the demanding venue schedule for England, starting in the heat of Ahmedabad and then moving to the colder Himachal Pradesh.
In summary, Harmison called for a larger player roster to accommodate the logistical and physical demands of the tournament.
