Old vs New for Meg Lanning as Delhi aim for nothing less than a win as defeat will see MI sneak through at 3rd.
Meg Lanning faces a classic old vs new clash.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) have a straightforward yet uncommon goal going into the WPL 2026 final league game: win and advance to the Eliminator. They had never been in a situation like this in the WPL, having won the tables in each of the prior three seasons to automatically qualify for the final.
UP Warriorz (UPW), a team that has a mathematical but not a realistic chance of winning, are in front of them. Meg Lanning, who led DC to a runners-up finish in each of the first three editions, is in charge of UPW. After starting the season with two losses, DC won their first game against UPW.
If DC hadn’t boxed up their two chances against Gujarat Giants (GG) this season, they wouldn’t be in this predicament. They failed to score nine and seven off the final over against Sophie Devine on both occasions.
Due to a misfiring batting unit, UPW has frequently changed their middle order. Deepti Sharma was elevated to open alongside Lanning in their most recent match, and the two of them added 74. In addition to spoiling DC’s celebration and starting one for the Mumbai Indians, who would qualify if DC loses, UPW has the opportunity to plant seeds for the upcoming season by concluding with a victory.
