Overseas players begin to leave even as IPL prepares Plan B for resumption in May.
After being stopped on Friday, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad have been selected to host the final 16 IPL 2025 matches if the competition returns in May. The IPL selected the three cities in southern India as part of a probable strategy in the event that the Indian government approves the tournament’s resumption.
Due to recent cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, the BCCI stopped the IPL for a week on Friday. If the IPL were to begin in May, it would be impossible to verify whether the BCCI had set a deadline for making that decision.
Even though the BCCI took the initiative to keep the three venues prepared, they realised that it would be challenging to swiftly resume the IPL in the current climate. This was communicated to franchise officials informally on Friday, and a number of team representatives suggested that the rest of the season might be played at a later date.
Getting the international players to return is one of the BCCI’s biggest obstacles in the run-up to the May resumption. Teams immediately began disbanding and players began boarding the next flight to their destinations as the suspension was issued. By the conclusion of Saturday, most of the foreign players are anticipated to depart India.
The teams acknowledged that there would be no assurances if the window lasted past May 25, when the IPL 2025 final was supposed to take place in Kolkata, even if they are still hopeful that the majority of the foreign players would return if the tournament resumed later in May. This is due to the bilateral commitments made by a number of players and the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final between South Africa and Australia, which will begin at Lord’s on June 11.
After 10.1 overs of play, the 58th match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala was called off. There have been 57 IPL 2025 matches played thus far. The rerun of that match has not yet been decided by the IPL.
Twelve league games remain before the four playoffs begin. The original plan was for Kolkata to host the second qualifier and the final, while Hyderabad would host the first qualifier and the eliminator.
