Paul Ince, the former captain of England, was accused with drunk driving after colliding with a central reservation, according to police.
After a black Range Rover crashed on Chester High Road in Neston, Wirral, around 17:00 BST on Saturday, the former Manchester United and Liverpool player was taken into custody.
The 57-year-old has been granted bail to appear in Chester Magistrates’ Court on July 18, according to Cheshire Police.
The former manager of Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers, who previously played for West Ham United and Inter Milan, earned 53 caps for his nation and participated in the 1998 World Cup and Euro 96.
In 1993, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player was elected as England’s first black football captain.
He transitioned into management after retiring, most notably serving Reading from 2022 to 2023.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said officers “were called following reports of a collision on Chester High Road, Neston”.
“The incident involved a black Range Rover which had collided with the central reservation barrier,” the spokesperson said.
“Officers attended the scene and arrested a 57-year-old man.”
