PCB dissatisfied with explanation from ICC over the omission of Pakistan’s name in the Champions Trophy branding.
For the whole of the match, which India won by six wickets, the broadcast’s top left corner featured the tournament name, Champions Trophy 2025, but not the name of the hosts, Pakistan.
This was different from the broadcast graphics used for the other tournament matches thus far, like as the opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi, where both Pakistan’s name and the event name were displayed. It was also evident during today’s Afghanistan vs. South Africa match in Karachi. It is understood that PCB is upset about the circumstance and has requested guarantees that it won’t occur again.
Although it is thought that the ICC casually informed PCB that it was an early technical issue, PCB is not happy with the explanation. The fact that Pakistan’s name appeared on the logo for the tournament’s opening game has left PCB perplexed as to why the problem developed for the match between Bangladesh and India. The graphics are generated and supplied to the live feed by UK-based Sunset & Vine, under the supervision of ICC, well in advance.
The ICC maintains that the occurrence was the result of a technological malfunction and has made it clear that this would not be a problem for any upcoming matches, whether they are held in the UAE or Pakistan. India vs. Pakistan in the UAE will be the most anticipated match of the tournament.
Because the ICC had granted them the rights to the whole tournament, Pakistan demanded they host every game, which sparked a heated debate in the months before the event. The BCCI demanded a neutral location for India’s matches and told the PCB that the Indian government did not allow them to play in Pakistan.
In the end, an agreement was reached that ensures India would not have to play in Pakistan, even if they get to the championship game. Pakistan will not visit India for any ICC events for the next three years as part of a reciprocal agreement, and their matches will be held at neutral locations.
