PCB looking to sell Multan Sultans as quickly as possible having been buoyed by the high prices of Hyderabad and Sialkot.
PCB wants to sell off Multan Sultans as soon as is legally possible.
The PCB is thinking of changing its mind about holding off on selling the Multan Sultans till after the conclusion of the forthcoming 11th Pakistan Super League (PSL). According to information obtained by sources, the PCB is actively discussing selling the franchise as soon as it is legally feasible. Senior PCB and PSL officials approve the concept, but chairman Mohsin Naqvi must give his final approval.
The hefty rates at which the two new teams, Hyderabad and Sialkot, were sold—PKR 1.75 and PKR 1.85 billion, respectively—are said to have boosted the PSL. The franchise payments were almost three times higher than those of Lahore Qalandars, the most lucrative of the current PSL teams, and the sales, which happened at an auction, considerably above the PCB’s expectations.
According to reports, PSL executives believe that the sales make this an especially good time to get Sultans the best deal. Sultans is an established PSL team that has participated in eight PSL seasons and won the championship in 2021, in contrast to the two new teams.
PSL authorities are hopeful that the highest asking price of all would be obtained in a sale prior to the season.
“Stage saja hua hai, Multan bhi announce kar dein [the stage is set, let’s auction Multan Sultans off as well],” PSL CEO Salman Naseer said at the press conference after Thursday’s auction. Naqvi responded that he had personally taken on the challenge of running Sultans and proving that would turn a profit. Half-jokingly, Naseer said that he planned to keep putting pressure on the chairman to sell Sultans before the season began.
In the end, a transaction must be completed swiftly if the PCB pushes it through before the PSL. There is no information regarding the date of the squad draft or auction, but the event begins on March 26. The number of players that each current organisation should be entitled to keep, as well as whether a draft or auction will be used to fill rosters, are reportedly still up for debate.
